This trip presents a rare opportunity for you to ride the DEMU along the attractive 49-mile East Suffolk line from Ipswich to Lowestoft. This is a classic rural route, of which few have survived the last half-century of rationalisation.
Our tour starts at Hastings and picks up at the usual stations via Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge, then at Sevenoaks, Bromley South and Kensington Olympia. We then travel around north London to Stratford before running along the Great Eastern main line via Chelmsford, Colchester and Ipswich.
From there we run via Diss to Norwich, our final destination. After a break of about three hours, we will commence our return journey by way of Lowestoft — the most easterly station in Britain — where we will make a short photographic stop. From Ipswich, we retrace our outward route back to Hastings.
These are the confirmed timings received from Network Rail.
