Saturday 21 June 2025: HDL Wymondham Winder railtour

Our midsummer railtour is to the cathedral city of Norwich, the medieval county town of Norfolk.

We will pick up passengers at our usual stops from Hastings to Tonbridge, then Bromley South and our final pick-up call at Kensington (Olympia).

On the return leg only, there will be an additional set-down stop at Stratford, east London, before we retrace our outward route via Kensington (Olympia).

Facilities and refreshments

This outing will be formed of both our DEMUs, making a 9-coach train once more.

Our Buffet car, also accessible to passengers in Coaches A, B, C, D and E, will be open all day for the sale of hot & cold food and drink at reasonable prices.

A trolley service of hot & cold drinks and refreshments will operate in Standard Class areas of both DEMUs.

In First Class an inclusive at-table service of drinks and light refreshments is offered through the day, with sandwiches at lunchtime and cheese & wine in the late afternoon.

Route and Timings

This 395-mile trip picks up at our usual stations from Hastings to Tonbridge as shown below, and at Bromley South and Kensington Olympia.

Part-way round the Mildmay Line (North London Line), at Gospel Oak we will bear left along the Barking route but then join the East Coast Main Line at Harringay Junction. Thereafter we’ll be routed via Hitchin, and will wind our sinuous way to Norwich via Cambridge, Ely, Thetford, and Wymondham.

On the return leg we’ll take a more direct route, straight back along the Great Eastern Main Line for 111 miles, to Stratford where our progress will be reduced to a plod amid the frequent stopping services on the Mildmay Line once more, to regain our outward route after Camden Road.
